Sagar V. Parikh, M.D., F.R.C.P.C., is the John F. Dr. Parikh is the author/editor of three books and nearly 200 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and co-author of all 10 editions (1997–2018) of CANMAT treatment guidelines for depression and for bipolar disorder, the most widely cited mood disorder guidelines. His principal clinical and research interests include biomarkers in major depression, pharmacogenomics of depression, and interventional psychiatry treatments, including intravenous ketamine and transcranial magnetic stimulation. Dr. Parikh is also developing interventions for both functional remediation in bipolar disorder and for workplace depression, as well as school-based depression awareness and prevention programs.
As medical director of the Mensante Corporation in Toronto, Dr. Parikh helped create a novel internet system for the recognition and management of mental disorders, which is commercially marketed. He administers the Michigan Medicine Depression Center Toolkit website at depressioncenter.org/depression-toolkit, which won the 2018 bronze Digital Health Award in a national competition organized by the Health Information Resource Center. Most recently, Dr. Parikh and his colleagues received the 2019 Psychiatric Services Achievement Gold Award (academic program) from the American Psychiatric Association for the Michigan Peer-to-Peer Depression Awareness Program.
Dr. Parikh serves as Secretary for the International Society for Affective Disorders and as Co-Head of the Section of Affective Disorders for the World Psychiatric Association. He has received a number of awards for his teaching, most recently the Paul Patterson Innovation in Education Leadership Award from the Canadian Psychiatric Association in 2018.
